Hogwarts was never really the same after Albus Dumbeldore passed away. The school was still vibrant with magic and the students still learned everything that they needed to, but Hogwarts was just empty. The trio had graduated, Dumbeldore was dead, and a new Minister had just taken over.
In 2000, Voldemort stormed the castle with his followers. Bent on destruction, the Dark Lord killed every person who would step in his path. In the end, Voldemort killed over 100 people in the castle, including Minerva McGonagall and her deputy, Professor Sprout.
Alyssa Brookstone, the new Minister of Magic, dealt with the problem with a swift hand. She placed the whole school under a lockdown and sent the best aurors to protect the school. It was then that the magical world faced its largest showdown.
Voldemort and his followers battled the ministry workers until they were barely standing. However, with the luck of magic, Voldemort was defeated.
By 2004, Brookstone had placed Benedict Talbot in charge of a 'restoration' of the castle. Finally in 2006, Talbot announced he would be the Headmaster.
